This is an excerpt from the Lent Devotional, “Anticipating Easter.”
“The darkest day in human history becomes the brightest. It is dark because mankind seemingly has killed God. Throughout his history, man has always tried to kill God, from Adam and Eve seeking to be gods themselves, all the way to the modern era which openly declares, “God is dead.” In the context of man’s irrational, self-destructive, and most evil intent, God brings salvation to man in Jesus Christ.
Jesus, being fully God and fully human, does what only He can do. He takes the wrath of God for sin by being put to death on the cross. God uses this sinful human action to solve the problem of man’s sinful nature. Jesus’ life and teachings are then vindicated by the Father who will raise Him from the dead on the third day. The religious leadership of Israel was wrong about Jesus. Victorious over sin and death, He has paved the way for man to be reconciled to God. Only through Jesus Christ do we have eternal life, free from the sin that we brought into the world. That is why this Friday is called “good.” And we know Sunday is coming!”
His mercy endures forever!
