Psalm 110:7

“He shall drink of the brook by the wayside; therefore, He shall lift up the head.” Psalm 110:7

Psalm 110 ends with this final picture of victory and glory. Jesus, the victorious King, drinks refreshing water from a stream that belongs to Him and His realm now that the battle is over. He takes a drink, rises up, and surveys His own recaptured land that this stream flows through. The usurpers have been dealt the final, eternal blow and the times of refreshing have come.

“Lifting up the head” means He is exalted. He has distinguished Himself above all other rulers. His name is exalted above all, and He alone is worthy of all honor, glory, and dominion; a sentiment repeated throughout the book of Revelation.

We really shouldn’t be surprised that this Psalm is the most quoted Old Testament Scripture in the New Testament for it celebrates the final victory of King Jesus. The fact that we bristle at the language of war says much about the current weak, lazy, soft, and impotent state of the church. The  church has allowed secular humanist, woke, and antichristian ideologies to dominate its culture rather than embracing the true spiritual warfare reflected 2 Corinthians 10:3-6. We have mighty weapons at our disposal to cast down every argument and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

Psalm 110 declares that the victory of King Jesus is assured. The decree has already been issued by the eternal Father. The glory of the exalted King Jesus is where our warfare leads. Time for us to fight the good fight with renewed vigor and with the vison of the Jesus of Psalm 110 fixed in our hearts and minds.

His mercy endures forever!
