Psalm 110:3

Psalm-110.3-Weekly-Meds

“Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; in the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth.” Psalm 110:3

Verses one and two describe the victory of the enthroned King of Kings. Verse three describes His army. For a King to extend his kingdom and defeat his enemies he needs an army. Interestingly, in singing the praises of the army of the Lord there is no mention of numbers, might, or of powerful weaponry such as chariots that might normally accompany a song about a king’s army.

Jesus’ army is beautiful in its holiness. The womb of the morning and dew of the Your youth point to new birth, new creation, and new life. Furthermore, His soldiers are not pressed into service, but joyfully enlist into the army of the King. The picture is clear. The army of the Lord of Hosts, who will accomplish the defeat of His enemies and the expansion of His kingdom, is a holy army, a new creation born again of the Holy Spirit. It is the church, the New Covenant army of God. The church militant.

This is the picture in Revelation 19:11-16 where the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is riding on a white horse with the two-edged sword of the Word of God coming out of His mouth while leading His soldiers into battle who are also riding on white horses and who are arrayed in white linen a symbol of holiness.

Psalm 110:3 is clear, King Jesus is working in and through His church to defeat His enemies and extend His kingdom, and His victory is assured. We are His soldiers engaged in the war to end all wars. Mighty Lord, extend Your kingdom!

His mercy endures forever!
