Daniel 4:1-3

Greetings Christ Church Missoula!

Grace to you and Peace!

“Nebuchadnezzar the king. To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell on the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.  I thought it good to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me. How great are His signs and how mighty are His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and His dominion is from generation to generation.” Daniel 4:1-3

As we enter an election year I thought it good to remind ourselves who is in control. These are the words of King Nebuchadnezzar after God humbled him. Keep in mind Nebuchadnezzar was a pagan king who ruled the entire civilized world.  The world was dominated by a pagan country, pagan culture, and pagan religion. It is this pagan king who confesses that it is God’s kingdom and dominion that is everlasting, and it is he who learned through his trial that,” the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whoever He wills,” Daniel 4:17

If that is not enough, later another pagan king, Darius, virtually declares the same thing. “Then King Darius wrote: To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell on the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.  I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God and steadfast forever; His kingdom is the one that will not be destroyed, and His dominion shall endure to the end.” Daniel 6:25-26

Modern man has forgotten this. Even we as Christians have forgotten this, which inevitably leads us to either, totally give up on our culture on the one hand or frantically panic that we are losing the nation to the pagans. But God would have us follow Daniel’s example of repentance, trust, faith, and open devotion to the Most High King in the midst of a wicked and perverse generation. (Daniel 6:10)

So, as we move closer to November it is likely that things are going to heat up.  In order to stay out of both ditches we should remember the words of Nebuchadnezzar that, even in our modern world, the Most High King rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He pleases, but His kingdom is everlasting and His dominion knows no boundaries.

“His mercy endures forever!
