Truths We Confess
As a church, our statement of faith is included in our Book of Confessions. It contains those creeds and confessions of the historic church to which we subscribe, including the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Definition of Council of Chalcedon (451 A.D.), the Athanasian Creed, the 39 Articles of Religion, the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Canon’s of Dort, and the Westminster Confession of Faith & Shorter Catechism. Since these theological documents vary slightly from one another, we tend to use the Westminster Confession (with some stated differences) as our default standard for examining the doctrine of church officers. While the officers of Christ Church Missoula commend our historic creeds and confessions to all Christians, we do not require church members to embrace all the statements contained therein. We encourage our members to be in fellowship with followers of Christ from other Christian traditions, keeping in mind the apostle Paul’s exhortation to “walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph 4:1-3).
